Description

Before reading or writing were developed, narration and storytelling was the primary pedagogical instrument for human communication. To this day, many ancient cultures preserve and practice their language, culture and spirituality traditions within the realm of oral accounts. For children, narration begins as soon as they start to speak. Recounting an adventure, retelling a beloved story, or explaining the context of a drawing are all types of narration. As children begin to express themselves with images and symbols, such as letters, teachers help them channel the natural impulse to retell in a way that supports their emergent writing foundation.
